Erica Kerr Sued, M.A., LCMHCA

My name is Erica Kerr Sued. I acquired my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in September 2023 from Liberty University. I have counseling experience working with a variety of issues, including life transitions, grief, postpartum depression, trauma, and anxiety within the adult population. I also have experience working with couples in different stages of life and from diverse religious and cultural backgrounds. As a former teaching assistant and allergy technician, I worked heavily with the local Latino and Hispanic population in Charlotte, NC. These opportunities allowed me to not only immerse myself in the culture but also appreciate the values of others, including those of my clients.

I believe that all people have an innate desire to have a fulfilling and purposeful life. Inevitable stress, anxiety, crisis, trauma, and sadness that accompany life’s journey can leave unhealed wounds and drive human beings to develop healthy and unhealthy coping mechanisms that serve to protect them against future hardships. These hurt parts of us are sometimes stuck in painful moments from the distant or even recent past, where we left them. These unhealed parts can lead to self-destructive thoughts and behaviors that can continue to cause problems in our lives. By utilizing an Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach, I strive to help clients identify, confront, and seek to understand these self-destructive thoughts, behaviors, and adapted perceptions of themselves and the world from a confident, compassionate, and neutral position. This is one of the first steps in working towards increased mindfulness, self-compassion, behavioral change, and contentment in life.

In addition to viewing client problems through an IFS lens, I also incorporate specific interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) during and outside of sessions. By utilizing interventions from different therapy models, I strive to give clients the opportunity to practice and develop a holistic and healthy perception of themselves and the world around them to empower them to create sustainable changes in their lives.
